Description:
Shiitake ( Lentinula edodes ) is a richly flavored mushroom that produces medium-to-large, umbrella-shaped brown caps. It bears fruit from late summer to autumn. This edible mushroom, native to East Asia, is known for its intense, savory, buttery, and umami flavor.
Shiitake is a variety that produces abundant harvests and is perfect for beginners. After inoculation, the trunks can fruit in as little as six months, although it usually takes nine to twelve months. A single trunk can continue to produce mushrooms for many years, provided optimal conditions are maintained.
